Mathla.org Legal Agreement

Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and Contributor Consent — Last Updated: March 2026

1. Introduction

Mathla.org operates a data contribution platform designed to collect sign language recordings in order to build a standardized dataset for Arabic sign language recognition. By accessing or using the Mathla.org recording platform, you agree to the terms described in this agreement. If you do not agree with these terms, you must not submit recordings or use the platform.

2. Purpose of the Platform

The Mathla platform collects sign language recordings to help develop automated sign language recognition and translation systems for Arabic. The collected data is used for: training recognition models, developing assistive technologies, improving accessibility tools for deaf and hard-of-hearing communities, academic and scientific research, building large-scale sign language datasets. All submitted recordings are used for research and model training only.

3. Video Recording and Data Collection

When you submit a recording through Mathla.org, the platform may collect: video recordings, body movement and gesture information, hand movements and hand shapes, facial expressions related to signing, timestamp and session information. The video may include: your face, your hands, upper body movement. This information is required to train sign language recognition systems.

4. User Consent

By recording and submitting a video, you confirm that: you voluntarily recorded the video, you agree that the recording may be stored and processed, you understand that the recording will be used to develop and train sign language recognition systems, you grant permission for the recording to become part of a research dataset. Submission of a recording represents explicit informed consent.

5. Contributor License Agreement (CLA)

By submitting any recording to Mathla.org, you grant Mathla.org a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to: store the recording, process and analyze the recording, use the recording to train recognition models, transform the recording into derived data (landmarks, motion vectors, metadata), include the data in research datasets.

6. Ownership

Contributors retain ownership of the original video they recorded. However, by submitting the recording, you grant Mathla.org permission to use the recording and any derived data for research and system development. Trained models and datasets created using these recordings are owned by Mathla.org.

7. Acceptable Use

Users must not submit recordings that contain: illegal content, offensive or abusive material, copyrighted content unrelated to signing, other individuals without their consent. Mathla.org reserves the right to remove recordings that do not meet dataset quality standards.

8. Age Requirement

You must be 18 years or older to contribute recordings. If you are under 18, you must obtain consent from a parent or legal guardian.

9. Data Processing

Submitted recordings may be processed using automated analysis tools including: body pose detection, hand tracking, facial landmark detection, gesture recognition. Processing may convert videos into research and training data formats.

10. Data Storage and Security

Submitted recordings may be stored on secure infrastructure. Security measures may include: controlled server access, encrypted storage systems, restricted dataset access. While we apply reasonable safeguards, no online system can guarantee absolute security.

11. Data Sharing

Mathla.org does not sell contributor data. However, processed datasets may be shared with: academic institutions, accessibility research organizations, and technical research partners. Shared datasets may contain anonymized or processed information derived from recordings.

12. Data Retention

Submitted recordings may be stored indefinitely in order to support long-term model training and research.

13. User Rights

Users may request: information about stored data, removal of recordings where technically possible, clarification about how data is used. Requests can be submitted through the contact email.

14. Platform Availability

Mathla.org may modify or discontinue the platform at any time. We are not responsible for interruptions caused by system maintenance or technical issues.

15. Limitation of Liability
